Teaching & Learning Secondary

Welcome to Teaching and Learning - Secondary

The Department of Curriculum & Instruction promotes high expectations for student achievement and collaborates with campus leadership and teachers to ensure students are presented with rigorous learning opportunities. Student assessments for learning are administered regularly to help teachers identify gaps and/or redundancies in learning to adjust instruction and provide differentiation as needed. Whether students work in teams or individually, every minute in the classroom is purposeful.

Plainview ISD focuses instruction on the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). The TEKS articulate the content to be taught and tested at each grade level on each campus in our district.

Plainview ISD provides a course scope and sequence along with a timeline for each grade and subject.  As teachers follow the scope and sequence, students learn concepts required by the TEKS in a timely manner throughout the course of the school year.  Through ongoing observation and evaluation, teachers look for opportunities where concepts need to be reviewed and retaught during each grading period.  Professional Learning Communities (PLC) collaborate weekly to align teaching practices which encourage a high level of learning for ALL students.  These PLC meetings provide time for teachers to learn and grow as practitioners.
