At the tonight's board meeting, we celebrated 30 outstanding students who earned college credit by scoring a 3 or higher in their dual credit courses. 🎉 Mexico's Independence Day Celebration at PHS/PCHS! 🇲🇽 On Tuesday, September 17, 2024, PHS and PCHS celebrated Mexico's Independence Day during lunch with festive decorations, music, and a delicious Mexican-inspired menu! 🌮🎶 A huge thanks to our parents, Mrs. Anita Garica, Mr. Joe Garica, Mrs. Figueroa, Mrs. Perez, and Mrs. Nava for making this cultural celebration a success! 🎊

🎉 PHS Hosts the Fall FCCLA Leadership Conference! 🎉 On Tuesday, September 17, 2024, Plainview High School proudly hosted nearly 300 students from across the Panhandle and South Plains, representing Kress, Memphis, Hereford, Morton, Tulia, Muleshoe, Roosevelt, Meadow, Hale Center, Lazbuddie, Friona, Tahoka, and Slaton at the Fall FCCLA (Family Career and Community Leaders of America) Leadership Conference! Our amazing PHS FCCLA student leaders shined, guiding attendees around campus while showcasing their hospitality, leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills. 👏 Students participated in four breakout sessions: ➡️ Engage: FCCLA 101, Creed, Mission, and Purposes ➡️ Compete: Competitive Events, Scholarships, Spotlight on Projects ➡️ Attend: Community Service, Leadership, Conference Etiquette ➡️ Lead: Chapter Management, Team Building, Running for Office Additionally, our Advanced Culinary students served delicious snacks and beverages to advisors, who had a dedicated session on best practices and Texas FCCLA updates. 🌟 Special shoutout to all who made the day a success, including Jennifer Scarbrough, Mrs. Dunn, Mr. Reagan, Ms. Sheila McKay, Ms. Danie Guerrero, our custodial staff, Officer Amos, and security! Your efforts and support ensured a well-organized, safe, and positive experience for everyone involved. This marks a milestone as it was the first time we’ve hosted the event during a regular school day—making history! 🎉 The feedback from teacher advisors was overwhelmingly positive, and even our FCCLA State Director expressed her gratitude and pride in our PHS student leaders and the PISD community for showcasing leadership in such a great way. 🙌

🩺 Plainview CNA Students Attend UMC Healthcare Expo! 🏥 On September 5th, 27 of our CNA students had an incredible opportunity to attend the UMC Healthcare Expo in Lubbock! This eye-opening experience included tours of various hospital departments, hands-on learning activities, and valuable insights into the many healthcare careers UMC has to offer – some that our students didn’t even know existed! Students had the chance to perform ultrasounds on carotid arteries, practice taking vital signs, simulate medication compounding, and even ventilate pig lungs. They also experienced what it's like to transport patients on hospital beds and toured UMC EMS' mobile hospital, which is deployed during natural disasters across the state. 🚑💉 UMC employees shared valuable advice on being a good employee, the many scholarships available, and how they work with college schedules to support students seeking employment while pursuing their education. Our students walked away with a new admiration for healthcare professionals and were inspired by the countless opportunities available in the field. 🎉 Plainview BPA Members Attend DECA Day with the Sod Poodles! 🎉 Six of our Business Professionals of America (BPA) members had an amazing experience at DECA Day with the Sod Poodles on Tuesday, September 10! Alongside 100 other students from the area, they toured the Hodgetown ballpark, participated in a Q&A session with the team’s assistant general manager, sales director, and marketing director, and enjoyed the game with a classic ballpark hot dog. To top it off, the Sod Poodles won 5-1! ⚾️ It was a fantastic day, and we’re excited to make this an annual event for even more students!
